Pirelli is ready to ask the FIA to enforce its new camber restrictions for the Italian Grand Prix if there is evidence of any blistering on its rubber after practice On the back of the tyre controversy at the Belgian GP, where Red Bull Racing in particular suffered blistering issues after exceeding Pirelli's camber recommendation, the Italian tyre manufacturer has imposed more conservative limits for Monza. The planned 3.5-degree limit on front camber was pulled back to 3.25-degrees ahead of the event - and the possibility of the FIA being asked to step in to enforce that maximum is now being considered

Week Five, Season Three of the iRacing V8 Supercar Series by Bigpond Sport took the circus to the relatively flat Silverstone International layout. Rens Broekman has proven to be a worthy signing for the Nfinity Esports team. He helped out the team by snaring pole, and helped out the commentators by sporting a new, less green livery to help tell the Nfinity cars apart. Splitting those two Nfinity cars was Madison Down, enjoying a return to (his usual) form. Mitchell McLeod was next from Mick Claridge and Simon Madden. Alvaro Bautista was in philosophical mood after crashing out from a promising seventh in the Czech Grand Prix, admitting that the pace he and Suzuki were able to demonstrate was some consolation for the disappointing end to his race. Bautista had starred in the early laps as he came through from 14th on the grid to seventh, where he was hounding Valentino Rossi and keeping pace with the pack ahead of him until his accident at Turn 13 on his 16th tour of the trac. Given his excellent race, the 26-year-old Spaniard described his crash as 'very disappointing' but said he and the team could also draw positives about their pace during the race

Kanaan confirmed for Surfers event
Tony Kanaan has become the latest driver to confirm his presence for the Armor All Gold Coast 600 event at Surfers Paradise in October. Tension between IndyCar Series championship rivals Dario Franchitti and Will Power continued to simmer in Mid-Ohio after the pair made contact again on the opening lap of the race. Relations between the two had already turned sour in July after Power suggested that Franchitti should have received a penalty for tipping him in to a spin at Toronto - the Scot going on to win the race. Franchitti then accused Power of trying to do the same thing on the first lap of the race at Mid-Ohio on Sunday as the pair fought over third position.

British Touring Car team boss John Welch believes the new Proton Gen-2 can be a future frontrunner in the series after its first track appearances at Snetterton on Saturday. Daniel Welch drove the front-wheel-drive Swindon-engined NGTC car in both free practice sessions on the Snetterton 300 circuit. With no track running beforehand, the car suffered some minor teething problems, such as high water temperatures and power steering issues, but completed 16 laps.

Longtime iRacer Jim Caudill Jr. has been selected to drive a JR Motorsports Chevrolet in two upcoming late model races at Motor Mile Speedway (Radford, VA).� The announcement was made by JRM co-owner and general manager Kelley Earnhardt, who revealed that Caudill will pilot the No.� 88 Chevrolet in races on August 13 and 20, with sponsorship from iRacing.com.� He will be joined by JRM teammate (and fellow iRacer) Josh Berry, who will be driving the No. 72 R&B Chevrolet in those events. Lewis Hamilton reckons he was still able to get some useful information about McLaren's latest upgrades - including a new rear wing - despite the rain in Silverstone practice. Though most drivers were frustrated with the total lack of dry running on day one of the weekend of the exhaust rules clampdown, Hamilton felt he had managed to learn at least a little about the new parts. "Despite the lack of running, today was actually quite encouraging; we tested a couple of things and I managed to pick up quite a decent feeling for the car," he said.

Tomczyk tops Spielberg warm-up
Martin Tomczyk continued his domination of the Spielberg DTM weekend by setting the fastest time in warm-up on Sunday morning. The Phoenix Audi driver, who will start the race from pole position, set the pace in 1m26.285s with a lap seven minutes from the end of the session, enough to put him ahead of Maro Engel's Mucke Mercedes by a scant 0.007s. Championship leader Bruno Spengler was third fastest in his HWA Mercedes, the Canadian being the quickest driver in a newer 2009-spec car during the session.

Chevy Volt earns five-star NHTSA crash rating [w/videos]

The 2011 Chevrolet Volt has earned "good" marks in crash tests before, and new tests by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's New Car Assessment Program prove that the earlier results were not a fluke. The Volt scored a five-star overall safety rating, which is the highest-possible score in NHTSA's new and more strict safety tests for 2011 model year vehicles.
General Motors says that a comprehensive system of safety features - specifically the StabiliTrak electronic stability control system and a bunch of air bags - helped the Volt become the first electric vehicle to get five stars.
The "first" part might be simply because NHTSA has not yet tested a Nissan Leaf. The agency will soon smash and bash the electric machine from Japan, and we expect the all-electric hatch will match GM's plug-in hybrid for safety - as it has before. Until then, we can view with fascination the Chevy Volt crash videos after the jump.
