Report: Unidentified companies 'showing interest' in Saab, but Geely isn't one of 'em

The Saab story continues. Automotive News and Bloomberg report that all isn't well with the Swedish automaker's Chinese suitors. Saab still hasn't received the $93 million it needs to continue to operate while it undergoes restructuring. The cash was originally supposed to come from Zhejiang Youngman Lotus Automobile in as little as two weeks after a deal was inked, but the process is apparently taking longer than anyone originally envisioned. At this point, Saab doesn't know when the funds will arrive. The company hasn't produced a single vehicle in as much as six months.
Meanwhile, Chinese automaker Geely is denying reports indicating that the company is interested in jumping into the Saab fiasco. As you may recall, Geely bought Volvo in 2010. At this point, the Chinese company says that its resources are currently occupied running its own Swedish brand.
In the meantime, Saab still maintains that it has several unspecified companies interested in potential future partnerships.

Report: Ferrari Enzo successor powered by V12 hybrid, next 599 to get 700+ hp

Ferrari has rolled out a few tasty bits of news courtesy of Car and Driver. The Italian sports car manufacturer has made it clear that the successor to the legendary Enzo will come to the party packing a V12 engine mated to a hybrid system. While Ferrari has already hinted that the company is seriously considering electrification with concepts like the 599 HY-KERS, CEO Amedeo Felisa said that a production Ferrari hybrid would have to include some sort of efficiency-boosting system in addition to a performance adder like a kinetic energy recovery system.
Felisa also said that the replacement for the company's 599 will feature somewhere around 700 horsepower. The machine will keep its front-engine, rear-wheel drive layout, but will rely on aluminum alloys for its body structure instead of carbon fiber. Felisa says that the absurd power in the future 599 is not a response to the Lamborghini Aventador, however.
Uh huh.

Official: Mazda RX-8 Spirit R will be last special edition before production ends

Mazda has chosen to commemorate the departure of the company's RX-8 with one last special edition in Japan. The Mazda RX-8 Spirit R is set to arrive at Japanese dealerships next month and will offer 1,000 lucky buyers a host of aesthetic upgrades over the base vehicle. The package starts with an RX-8 RS and adds in exclusive badging, unique head- and taillights with black bezels and red brake calipers outside. Indoors, the cabin wears special Spirit R bucket seats hewn by the people at Recaro as well as piano black transmission tunnel trim.
Models equipped with an automatic transmission will enjoy black leather seats with red contrasting stitching. Mazda says that the RX-8 Spirit R will also feature a sport-tuned suspension and larger brakes, as well as 18-inch gun metallic wheels. A total of three exterior color options will be available, including Aluminum Metallic, Sparkling Black Mica and Crystal White Pearl Mica. Hit the jump for the press release.

Sebastian Vettel admitted he was surprised by his advantage in qualifying at Monza, the Red Bull driver conceding he never expected to grab pole by such a margin. A 3-Series Wagon For The Non-Wagon Buyer
Despite enchanting few critics along the way, the all-new 2011 BMW X3 has been helping its German parent clean up on the sales charts.
Like the rest of the premium crossover segment, the X3 has been viewed by some brand diehards as a blatant cash-grab. The starting price might be easy enough to swallow, but start ticking the option boxes and the sticker swells to a size more startling than the first time you heard your mother drop an F-bomb. Despite this, we wanted to see if the 2011 BMW X3 xDrive28i could break through the enthusiast's wall of prejudice. As you'd expect, it's a mixed bag.

Simon Pagenaud kept Peugeot on top in Silverstone practice with a phenomenal effort that left him more than 1.5s clear of the field. The Frenchman, deputising for the injured Anthony Davidson, traded fastest laps with Audi's Allan McNish in the early stages of practice, but at the half-way mark found more than three seconds as he blazed to a 1m44.945s. Given that times had been centred in the low 1m47s it seemed that benchmark would remain unbeaten and so it proved.

Week Five, Season Three of the iRacing V8 Supercar Series by Bigpond Sport took the circus to the relatively flat Silverstone International layout. Rens Broekman has proven to be a worthy signing for the Nfinity Esports team. He helped out the team by snaring pole, and helped out the commentators by sporting a new, less green livery to help tell the Nfinity cars apart. Splitting those two Nfinity cars was Madison Down, enjoying a return to (his usual) form. Mitchell McLeod was next from Mick Claridge and Simon Madden. Lewis Dodimead was sixth, finding even more speed since his return to the top split. Bautista philosophical after crash
Alvaro Bautista was in philosophical mood after crashing out from a promising seventh in the Czech Grand Prix, admitting that the pace he and Suzuki were able to demonstrate was some consolation for the disappointing end to his race. Bautista had starred in the early laps as he came through from 14th on the grid to seventh, where he was hounding Valentino Rossi and keeping pace with the pack ahead of him until his accident at Turn 13 on his 16th tour of the trac. Given his excellent race, the 26-year-old Spaniard described his crash as 'very disappointing' but said he and the team could also draw positives about their pace during the race

Kanaan confirmed for Surfers event
Tony Kanaan has become the latest driver to confirm his presence for the Armor All Gold Coast 600 event at Surfers Paradise in October. The 2004 IndyCar champion will race alongside Jason Bargwanna in the Jana Living Racing Commodore. The Brazilian joins other former IndyCar champions like Scott Dixon, Dan Wheldon and Sebastien Bourdais.
