This year's RM Auctions event in Phoenix will feature several classics with serious celebrity provenance. First and foremost is a rare 1973 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona Spyder that was alternately owned by Reggie Jackson and Evel Knievel. By itself, the Daytona Spyder is expected to fetch around a million bucks, but that's only the tip of the proverbial iceberg.

Also on the roster is a 1929 Duesenberg Model J Dual Cowl Phaeton used by Elvis Presley in the movie Spinout (also estimated at a million +/-), a 1941 Lincoln Continental Coupe (pictured above) given by Orson Welles to Rita Hayworth (~$175k) and a 1949 Cadillac Series 75 Woodie Limousine with custom bodywork by Schwartz commissioned by MGM studios (~$300k). With nearly three months to go before the auction, you can bet there'll be plenty more interesting vehicles on their way to Arizona for the event. What happens when a KTM X-Bow and an Audi concept car smash into each other on the drawing board? We get the Roding Roadster 23. This is no longer just a unique-looking, lightweight sports car that we've only seen photos of, because the car has now been caught in action. Despite the hate-it-or-love-it styling, this Roding Roadster 23 looks like it's an absolute blast to drive.

The Roadster 23 weighs just 2,030 pounds and is powered by a six-cylinder engine that produces 300 horsepower and 300 pound-feet of torque. The run from 0-62 miles per hour happens in just under four seconds. Better yet, the car appears quick - not just in the straights, but around turns as well. The drivers in the video, which is waiting after the jump, toss the car around like a toy. It almost looks like the car prefers being sideways.

Unfortunately, the "23" in the name refers to the number that will be built. So it's highly likely that the one you see in the video after the jump is the only one you will ever see.

Local Motors Rally Fighter in action - Click above to watch video after the jump

Local Motors, the car builder behind the idea of open-source automotive development, showed off its Rally Fighter at SEMA last year. At that time, it only had one car built. Fast forward to the 2010 SEMA show and Local Motors is bringing five of the coupes to Las Vegas.

Each vehicle wears a skin designed by someone in the Local Motors online community. The first car is known as Beta 1, and wears images of Teddy Roosevelt and Pancho Villa on its sides. Beta 2, the company's second test vehicle, wears livery inspired by Rocky. It was built alongside the three customer-built models to explore the same build process they experience.

The first non-test vehicle was purchased by Local Motors CEO Jay Rogers, which is being used as a daily driver vehicle. Its color scheme was created by a community member who had only been active for 14 days when his vote was chosen. Rally Fighter number four is going to customer Jay Zuppardo, whose family enjoys off-roading and plans to turn the red, white, blue and orange-schemed Local Motors vehicle into a sand rail.

The fifth vehicle is going to the original sales person for Local Motors, John Domolky. His simple black and white paint scheme tones down the exterior style elements of the vehicle without losing its unique appearance. This is crucial for Domolky because he is the first customer to place the vehicle into an urban environment. Rather than commuting around Arizona like the CEO, John Domolky is going to drive his Rally Fighter around the streets of Boston.

Local Motors says it should double the number of Rally Fighters on the road to 10 by the years end. Take a look at the Rally Fighter in action in the video after the jump.

CONCORD, N.C. (AP) -- Rick Hendrick never panicked as the season stretched on and he still didn't have a sponsorship deal for Jeff Gordon.

Why? Because he always had a contingency plan to fall back on. It gave him the ability to be discerning when it came to the four-time NASCAR champion.

Then came the potential pairing with the AARP Foundation, which began talks on a sponsorship program with Hendrick Motorsports in September. The deal quickly fell into place, and the foundation's "Drive to End Hunger" campaign was announced Wednesday as Gordon's primary sponsor for the next three years.

"We had a deal in our pocket. It was a verbal agreement," Hendrick said of the second suitor, which he refused to identify. "But this one came only faster, quicker and had more potential."

More potential for both sides.

The AARP Foundation and Jeff Gordon will team up in 2011, with the charity arm of the retired persons organization becoming the primary sponsor on Gordon's No. 24 Chevrolet for most of the NASCAR Sprint Cup races to promote a major anti-hunger campaign, the Charlotte Observer reported Monday.

The paper reported that the campaign will be coordinated by the foundation and will eventually involve other companies.

The new deal, however, doesn't mean that fans will no longer see Gordon's longtime primary sponsors, Dupont and Pepsi, on his No. 24 Chevrolet. Those two powerhouse companies are expected to sponsor the races that AARP Foundation doesn't cover, the Observer said.

More details of the sponsorship are expected to be announced at a Wednesday news conference.

Dupont is one of NASCAR's longest-running and most dedicated sponsors.

If Dupont steps away completely from some of the 2011 races, it will be the first time since the company began sponsoring Gordon beginning with his very first race at Atlanta at the end of 1992.

It's hard to believe that the time to purchase a Chevrolet Volt is finally almost here, and the latest evidence of this fact comes in the form of Chevrolet's official online vehicle configurator. Taking a quick look at the "build and price" options reveals few options for the seven markets eligible to purchase a 2011 Volt. That's probably a good thing since a new Volt starts at $41,000, (or $32,780 after U.S. government tax breaks).

If you want to spec out more than a base Volt, you can choose from one of three uplevel paint jobs, $695 for a rear camera with Park Assist (an option we very much recommend after experiencing the Volt's compromised rear visibility), $595 for polished aluminum wheels or $1,395 for a Premium Trim package with heated leather seats and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. All optioned out, the Volt jumps to $44,680. If that price tag feels like a bit of a tall order, keep in mind that the Volt can be leased for $350 a month for 36 months with $2,500 due at signing, an option that we suspect will be very popular. Jaguar Land Rover looks to be jumping into the Chinese market in a big way. According to The Wall Street Journal, the company has fired up talks with an automaker in The People's Republic in hopes of giving birth to a joint venture. For now, neither Jaguar Land Rover nor owner Tata are willing to expound on who the mystery partner could be. Instead, the two are content to simply say that the move is part of a strategy to push Jaguar and Land Rover products in under-developed markets.

The Wall Street Journal reports that Land Rover may be interested in manufacturing SUVs in China at first. Later, Jaguar products may eventually show up, as well. For now, it's unclear exactly what Jaguar Land Rover would bring to the partnership other than stacks of hard cash and brand equity, though that may be incentive enough for a mystery Chinese automaker.

Spinning off shows from British television into American programs are all the rage these days. Just ask anyone who watches The Office, American Idol, The Shield or Life on Mars. But the one we're most excited about, of course, is the U.S. version of Top Gear. A long time coming, the pilot is set to air on the History Channel in about a month. And as the date approaches, details have been trickling in. The latest covers the test track that will be the show's playground.

Like its original British counterpart, the Top Gear test track has reportedly been converted from an old military air base: in this case the Marine Corp's former facility at El Toro in Orange County, California - the same location the NBC project was to use.

The track combines north/south and east/west runways from the former air field. Disused airport runways make great circuits, but there's one downside: no elevation changes, the likes of which make tracks like Spa and Laguna Seca the legends they are. The El Toro configuration ameliorates the situation, however, with a ten-foot drop and subsequent climb through an off-track loop on the right side of the map pictured above, giving it what most runway tracks - like Silverstone and the original Top Gear track in England - don't have.

Ford, Jeep and Ram have new feathers to stick in their caps. The Texas Auto Writers Association has voted Ford the official Truck Line of Texas, while the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee has landed the title of SUV of Texas. Despite FoMoCo's line of top-notch trucks, the 2011 Ram Laramie Longhorn was awarded the much-coveted Truck of Texas honor. We expect to see each respective manufacturer tout their new titles in ads any day now.

The Texas Auto Writers Association holds an annual Texas Truck Rodeo every year, giving journalists from the state are given the opportunity to drive nearly every truck on the market over a two-day period. At the end of the event, votes are tallied for each award category and the winners announced. In addition to the categories just mentioned, there were other awards handed out, including Full-Size Pickup Truck: 2011 Ram 1500 Outdoorsman Crew Cab 4x4, Mid-Size Pickup Truck: 2011 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab 4x2 Texas Edition, Luxury Pickup Truck: 2011 Ram 1500 Laramie Longhorn, Heavy Duty Pickup Truck: 2011 Ram Power Wagon Crew Cab 4x4, and Outstanding Feature: Ford/ MyFord Touch.

This year's big winners make plenty of sense to us, as Ford has crammed the F-150 with a slew of excellent drivetrain options and the Jeep Grand Cherokee is a massive step in the right direction for Chrysler. Likewise, the Ram Laramie Longhorn offers one of the best interiors of any pickup available right now, and its supple rear suspension strikes us as just the thing for traversing the Lone Star state.
