Report: Audi to unveil Vail CUV concept in Detroit

Audi CEO Rupert Stadler slipped up while talking to Bloomberg, telling the financial pub that in addition to the 2013 A4 and A4 AllRoad, a small crossover concept will debut at the Detroit Auto Show next week.

Stadler didn't give up anything in the way of details, but the concept will be dubbed the "Vail" and could be a way to gauge reception of a smaller Audi CUV in the States.

If we had to guess, the Vail will feature an Allroad-like treatment on the Euro-only Q3, likely involving a higher ride height, plastic body treatments and a more go-anywhere attitude. We'll know for sure in a few days, but we hope that's not all Audi has planned.

Capirossi vows to improve safety

Loris Capirossi says improving the safety of MotoGP's Bridgestone rubber is his chief priority in his new role as safety advisor to the championship and its promoter Dorna. The 38-year-old Italian, a veteran of 14 years in MotoGP/500cc and 22 years of racing, retired at the end of 2011 and was then offered an advisory role in matters of safety by Dorna CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta. Hendrick: Supply role not in doubt

NASCAR team boss Rick Hendrick says he has no doubts about providing rival Sprint Cup teams with cars and engines despite the fact that Tony Stewart used Hendrick equipment to win the championship for Stewart-Haas this year. Stewart's team is one of several to buy in chassis and engines from one of the bigger teams, and he went on to win the title while Hendrick's top driver was Jimmie Johnson in sixth. FIA clarifies defensive-driving rules

The FIA, motorsport's ruling body, has issued a clarification about the defensive moves allowed in Formula 1 from the 2012 season. The governing body had stated at the end of last year that, from the upcoming season, drivers would not be allowed to move back onto the racing line after having moved off it to defend their position. On Wednesday, the FIA issued the new sporting rules, which state that drivers will in fact be allowed to move back onto the racing line, but leaving enough room between their car and the edge of the track when approaching corners.
