The original Grand Theft Auto video game debuted for the Playstation in 1997, but it wasn't until the power of the Playstation 2 arrived that we were introduced to the sandbox-style of gameplay that has made the GTA series so iconic. Part of what has made that sandbox style so appealing is the ability to jack any vehicle in the game and go joyriding across its ever expanding locales.
The last full-fledged GTA was the fourth installment that came out in 2008. It's been a long time coming, but next year the game's developers at Rockstar North will debut Grand Theft Auto V, which sets itself in a fictional and stylized version of the Los Angeles and Hollywood areas of California. The story is set around a father who moves to the area to start a new life, but as usual, his old one catches up with him.Rockstar North debuted the game's first trailer today, and as usual, the selection of vehicles to steal, drive and use as tools for vehicular manslaughter are featured front and center. Gulf Racing will enter the World Endurance Championship next year with a pair of Lola prototypes. Official: 2012 Ford Focus Electric priced from $39,200*

The 2012 Ford Focus Electric showed up on the company website's configurator this morning with a base price of $39,200 before state and federal incentives, plus an additional $795 for destination charges. That brings the total base starting price of the Focus Electric to $39,995. Factor in a maximum federal tax credit of $7,500 and the price falls to a more palatable $32,495.
For comparison's sake, the 2012 Nissan Leaf features a base starting price of $35,200 plus $850 for destination charges. Factoring in delivery fees, Ford's EV will cost $3,945 more than Nissan's before incentives.
Options that will inch up the Focus Electric's price are few, but include special Blue Candy ($395) and White Platinum ($495) paint options, as well as leather-trimmed seats ($995) to replace the car's standard Earth-friendlier cloth seats.
What you'll get for your money is Ford's fun-to-drive Focus with a permanent-magnet electric motor producing 123 horsepower and 181 pound-feet of torque. The motor is fed by a 23 kwh lithium-ion battery system and mated to a single-speed transmission. A full charge can be had in 18-20 hours by a typical 120v outlet or 3-4 hours by a special 240v charger. While no quick charge option is available, Ford has partnered with a company called SunPower to offer a home solar charging option for an additional $10,000.

Volvo weight increase for China
The Volvo C30 has had 20kg added to its base weight for this weekend's World Touring Car Championship round at Tianma. Robert Dahlgren's fastest lap for the Polestar Racing-run car at Suzuka last time out means that the C30 has been made heavier under the compensation weight rules, designed to balance the performance of the field. Indian GP to hold minute?s silence
Formula 1 personnel will hold a minute's silence in memory of Dan Wheldon and Marco Simoncelli ahead of the Indian Grand Prix. Report: Coughlan promoted to technical chief as Raikkonen rumors circle at Williams

As fast as tarmac and competing drivers can vanish behind you in Formula One racing, so can the unfortunate events of the past. In some cases, anyway. Flavio Briatore may still be banned from the sport due to his involvement in the Crashgate debacle, but Mike Coughlan is making short business of putting his scandal behind him, and returning to F1 racing in a big way.
As you may recall, Coughlan was a central figure in the Spygate scandal between McLaren and Ferrari. While waiting for his suspension to expire, he went over to NASCAR and helped Waltrip engineer some new cars. Then when the coast was clear, he jumped back into F1 with Williams. That resulted in a lawsuit, but now that that's all cleared up, Williams has confirmed Coughlan as its new technical director - the #2 position in any F1 team.
It's a move that's been anticipated by many ever since Coughlan was initially hired as chief engineer back in May, around the same time that outgoing technical director Sam Michael left the team. But the announcement - made by company chairman Adam Parr at this weekend's Indian Grand Prix - is hardly the end of the rumors circulating around Williams.
Back in September we reported on rumors that Kimi Raikkonen was negotiating a potential return to Formula One with Williams. The 2007 world champion left the series after the 2009 championship when Ferrari wanted to make room for Fernando Alonso. Since then he's been racing in the World Rally Championship and in NASCAR, biding his time until he could find a top team with a shot at the title with which he could return to the series he once dominated.
Those rumors are now intensifying, suggesting that Kimi could be brought in to replace Rubens Barrichello and partner with the young Pastor Maldonado. If true, they'd ostensibly demonstrate tremendous faith on Raikkonen's part in a team that was once at the very top and has been clawing its way back up ever since.
