Jorge Lorenzo says it was a "difficult choice" to take up the #1 on his Yamaha for his title defence, but that he felt it would be wrong not to use the champion's number having earned it. MotoGP title-winners can elect to stick with their traditional racing numbers, with Lorenzo's erstwhile team-mate Valentino Rossi preferring to keep his #46 even in the seasons when he was champion, but Lorenzo will switch from his usual #99 to #1 for 2011. "I am very proud because you have to work very hard to have the option to wear it," said Lorenzo, who ran with the #1 for post-season testing at Valencia last year. Rome has now officially given up on its plans to hold a Formula 1 street race - as the Italian city says its efforts are now switching to securing the Olympics. After months of speculation about whether a grand prix could be put on in Rome's streets, the hopes of an event were dashed a few weeks ago when Bernie Ecclestone wrote a letter to organisers stating that no country would be allowed to hold two races in their country. With Monza already having a long-term deal to host the Italian Grand Prix, that all but killed off Rome's hopes of landing a race. The dispute over the Lotus name in Formula 1 will now go to trial much earlier than originally expected, after a High Court judge today pushed for a swift resolution to the matter. Although Mr Justice Peter Smith rejected a bid by Group Lotus for a summary judgement on one of the naming matters at a hearing on Monday, he told legal representatives that the situation needs to be settled as quickly as possible. He has now pencilled in a March 21 date for the trial to begin - which means it will commence the week before the second race of the season in Australia. Ducati managed to put 386 laps on its new GP11 bike as it made its track debut with a three-day test at Jerez, which concluded today. Team manager Vito Guareschi returned to his previous role as test rider and was joined by Franco Battaini for the sessions. Ducati's technical chief Filippo Preziosi was very pleased with the work Guareschi and Battaini achieved, but said it was only an initial step before race riders Valentino Rossi and Nicky Hayden are allowed to try the bike in the first group test at Sepang on 1-3 February. Williams is considering the radical step of a public flotation in a bid to secure its long-term financial health, the team announced on Friday. After much speculation about the Grove-based outfit's financial health in recent months following the departure of a number of sponsors at the end of last year, the team has responded by mapping out its vision to help bolster its financial future. A statement from team principal Frank Williams said that a flotation on the stock market would be a boost, but would help ensure its long-term survivalStanley Ford Mike Bliss PRISM Motorsports Toyota Travis Kvapil Long John Silver s Ford
